Sapphire and Diamond Ring

Sapphire and Diamond Ring

I am so incredibly proud of this ring!  When a very good customer of mine came to ask if I could make a "Princess Diana Ring" I was honestly a little worried. I have made this type of ring plenty of times when I worked for a fine jeweller in South Africa but I have never attempted to set one like it. So I have done this kind of metal work before but I have never secured the stones to a ring like that.  I was careful when making it as I knew I would be making my life so...

Amethyst and Rose Gold Ring

Amethyst and Rose Gold Ring

I love this piece. In its past life it was a brooch but my customer wanted it turned into a ring as she doesn't wear brooches. I decided the metal was too thin on the brooch and I would have to remake the whole piece. I melted down the brooch after taking the stone out and remade the whole ring from scratch. I then reset the amethyst. I love how it turned out and I think rose gold and amethyst make a beautiful combination. What do you think? If you have any old pieces that you want to have remade...

18k Gold and Diamond Necklace

I often don't share pictures of my commission pieces right away because they are gifts and have to stay a secret until the recipient receives it. This piece was ordered by my aunt for my cousin over 9 months ago and I didn't share it because I completely forgot about it! I guess that is what happens when you are busy. The necklace is 18k yellow gold and has three diamonds set in tubes, each diamond represents a decade which is so special as it was my cousins 30th birthday present. I love when jewellery has special significance and memories...

Dandelion Pendant

Dandelion Pendant

I was requested by a customer to design and make a pendant for a christening gift. The client wanted the design to have some link with the child's name, Polly.  I found out that Polly means "little" or "humble" but the client didn't think that she wanted to promote those qualities so we looked at broader meanings. We found out that Polly is derived from Molly which is a derivative of Mariah or Miryam - thus "sea of bitterness" or "long wished for child". We went for "long wished for child", for obvious reasons! I then looked in my trusty Flowerpaedia...

Opal and Diamond Pendant

Opal and Diamond Pendant

My customer came to me with a few rings that she wanted melted down and made into two new pendants. She said she wanted the pendants not to be too fine, to be "totally different", contemporary and abstract. I took apart the rings and took the stones out so I could get a better sense of how the stones might work together to create the contemporary feel the client was after. I did a few designs for each but these were the ones that the client liked the most. I was so happy to make them and they turned out...
